Whether you’re advancing your career, changing fields, or stepping into the classroom through a residency or alternative pathway, Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓÆµ has a program built for your goals.

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in another field who want to become licensed teachers. It provides a clear, supportive pathway into the classroom through graduate‑level coursework and hands‑on clinical experience.

The Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) is built for educators who already hold a teaching license and want to deepen their expertise, strengthen their practice, or move into advanced roles in their schools or districts.

Residency Licensure programs support individuals who have been hired to teach in North Carolina and need to affiliate with an Educator Preparation Program (EPP) while completing licensure requirements. This pathway allows you to begin teaching right away while working toward full certification

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Programs

If you have a passion for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, the MAT in STEM Education gives you a clear pathway to bring that passion into the classroom. This concentration prepares you to teach middle or high school math or science through flexible, online coursework, practical experience, and supportive faculty mentorship.

You’ll complete the MAT core along with four STEM‑focused courses that strengthen your content knowledge and instructional skills. When you finish, you’ll be ready for recommendation for licensure in North Carolina and equipped to inspire the next generation of problem‑solvers.

If you’re committed to supporting exceptional learners, the MAT in Special Education offers a flexible, fully online pathway into a high‑impact teaching career. You’ll build the knowledge and skills needed to work with students across a wide range of abilities through coursework designed for working adults and those entering the field through Residency Licensure.

The Adapted Curriculum pathway prepares you to teach students with severe to profound disabilities, with courses that explore communication, physical support needs, and evidence‑based practices for learners with complex profiles.

The General Curriculum pathway focuses on supporting students with mild to moderate disabilities, with coursework in math and literacy instruction, collaboration with families and professionals, and  classroom management.

Both pathways lead to recommendation for licensure in North Carolina and prepare you to make a meaningful difference in K–12 schools

If you’re passionate about supporting multilingual learners, the MAT in TESOL offers a flexible, fully online pathway to becoming an ESL teacher in North Carolina. This concentration prepares you to help students develop academic English while honoring their linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

You’ll complete the MAT core along with specialized TESOL coursework that builds your skills in language acquisition, instructional strategies, and collaboration with families and school communities. When you finish, you’ll be ready for recommendation for licensure and equipped to support English learners in K–12 classrooms.

Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) Programs

Advance your practice and prepare for National Board Certification—an credential that leads to increased pay in North Carolina—through Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓÆµâ€™s fully online MAEd in Comprehensive Education, with concentrations in STEM, Special Education, TESOL, Literacy, and English.

The STEM Education concentration is designed for licensed teachers who want to deepen their expertise in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while strengthening their instructional practice. Through fully online coursework, you’ll explore current issues in STEM education, innovative teaching methods, engineering design for K–12 learners, and the purposeful use of technology to enhance learning.

You’ll also engage in classroom‑based teacher research, allowing you to apply new strategies directly to your own teaching context and contribute to meaningful instructional improvement.

The Literacy concentration is designed for educators who want to become stronger, more intentional teachers of reading and writing across grade levels. Through coursework in the science of reading, assessment, disciplinary literacy, and instructional technology, you’ll build the expertise needed to support diverse learners and serve as a literacy leader in your school or district.

If you’re passionate about literature, writing, and helping students develop strong communication skills, the MAEd in English offers a fully online pathway to deepen your content knowledge and refine your instructional practice. You’ll engage in advanced study of writing pedagogy, literature, language, and curriculum design, preparing you to elevate learning in today’s ELA classrooms.
