HR is a consultative field where HR professionals use strategic capabilities to address
HR issues throughout the organization. The rigorous MSHR curriculum is grounded in
a consultative leadership model based on strategic, operational, relational, and ethical
and socially responsible human resources competencies. This model informs current
and evolving strategic HR practice from hiring and onboarding to AI integration and
HR data-gathering for decision-making. MSHR faculty bring real-world HR expertise
to their courses as they educate the next generation of HR leaders to be organizational
change agents.
Master of Science in Human Resources
The MSHR program prepares HR professionals ready to engage as forward-thinking human
resource leaders in diverse organizational settings.
What You'll Learn
The MSHR program is 36 semester hours, including a breadth of operational and developmental HR topics. Through 7 required
and 5 elective courses, you’ll grow your knowledge in foundational HR topics. You’ll
have the opportunity to discuss and debate topics like strategic use of AI for HR
professions, organization evaluation, human resource development, talent hiring and
management, and employment law and ethics as you gain practical hands-on experience.
In two online HR consulting courses, guided by faculty, you will engage in real consulting
experiences with non-profit and small business organizations. As consultants, you
will apply your HR knowledge and skills to analyze complex HR issues, develop strategic
solutions, and deliver professional recommendations that the clients can implement
for organizational change.
Where You'll Go
HR professionals utilize a broad set of leadership, analytical, and interpersonal
skills. The MSHR program will equip you with the skills needed to be a human resources
leader. Jobs in human resources are available in corporate, non-profit, and government
organizations. The human resources field includes job roles such as integrating AI
and other technology for talent onboarding, employee benefits, and risk management;
consulting with internal organization clients on strategic change; and developing
learning and education opportunities for diverse employee groups.
Your career options in the HR field are varied and exciting as you meet the needs
of people throughout the organization. The average annual salary for an HR manager
in the United States ranges between $82,000 and $87,000/year. While entry-level or
small-company roles may start lower, experienced HR managers, particularly in corporate
settings, can earn over $100,000 annually, with high-end salaries potentially exceeding
$180,000 in top-paying industries and regions.
