Information for Polling Site at Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Health and Human Sciences Building

As part of an ongoing partnership with the Jackson County Board of Elections, Western Carolina University will host an Early Voting (Oct. 15-31) and Election Day (Nov. 3) polling site in the Health and Human Sciences Building for the 2026 General Election.
Polling locations are determined by the Board of Elections, and Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ is working closely with county officials to provide a convenient and accessible location for voters. The information below is intended to help faculty, staff and students prepare for the increased visitor activity associated with hosting a public polling site while ensuring that academic, clinical and business operations continue as planned.

The early voting polling site is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays, Oct. 24 and 31, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The polling site will be open on Election Day from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

By hosting a polling site, Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ is supporting civic engagement and providing a convenient voting location for students, employees, and members of the surrounding community.

Because this public service will bring additional visitors to HHS and may affect parking, building access, and daily activities, the information below is intended to help faculty, staff, and students plan ahead and minimize disruptions.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and cooperation during the voting period.

What to Expect

Increased visitor presence: The building will welcome community members who are coming to vote throughout the day. As a result, you can expect a higher volume of visitors in and around HHS than on a typical campus day.

Access to shared spaces: Voters will be directed to the designated polling area in HHS Room 204. Community members may also be present in hallways, lobbies, and other shared spaces as they enter and leave the building. Signs will direct voters to Room 204 and identify areas reserved for academic or clinical use.

Parking impacts: Parking lots around HHS will be busier than usual, with the greatest impact expected on Election Day (Nov. 3). Per the Jackson County Board of Elections Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), 20 spaces in the upper lot will be reserved for voter parking, and four spaces will be reserved for curbside voting. As per standard Parking Services policy, vehicles with a Faculty/Staff parking permit will be allowed to park in all zones designated Faculty/Staff, Commuter, and Freshmen parking. Please allow extra time for parking and arrival. Cat-Tran service to HHS will continue throughout the voting period and may help reduce travel-related delays.

Plan ahead: Faculty, staff, and students should allow additional travel time during Early Voting and on Election Day, particularly during peak voting periods, which tend to be early in the morning (8-10 a.m.) and just before polls close in the evening.

Classes, meetings, and daily operations: HHS will remain open, and all scheduled classes, academic activities, and business operations are expected to continue as planned. Faculty and staff may also use their discretion, where appropriate and consistent with university requirements, to hold meetings or other activities online or at another location. Please work with your department head/school director regarding any alterations, communicate any changes in advance, and remind students and meeting participants to allow extra time if traveling to the building.

Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ thanks you for your flexibility, the cooperation of everyone who works and learns in HHS, and civic mission.
