Research Interests
My research focuses on access to early care and education, as well as the emergent language, literacy, and STEM knowledge/skills of children enrolled in those settings, such as children in poverty (Head Start/Early Head Start), children with disabilities, rural children, and multilingual learners, as well as children at the intersection of those identities. As part of my interest in supporting these populations, I have previously investigated Head Start, Early Head Start (and migrant and seasonal Head Start), family child care homes, and other types of center-based early care and education. I am especially interested in designing interventions that can support diverse caregivers to provide inquiry-rich language input, interventions that take place in authentic natural settings, such as the outdoors, and in cross-disciplinary and cross-sector research that can support young children and families.
